For the past couple years, whenever I passed by a kayak rental shop in Auburn, I couldn’t shake the vision of a photo session with a couple there. Every year I put it off. Deep down I knew I had to bring this vision to life. Just like the vision I had with my desert inspiration session years back. That session knocked it out of the park, just like this one did.

2023 was the year I was going to make it happen. I reached out to Sierra Outdoor, who graciously agreed to collaborate. Then I spent some time thinking about who would be the best fit for this session and my daughter’s gymnastics coach, Maddy, kept coming to mind. I reached out to her and had her talk to her boyfriend, Mason. I just had a feeling that they would be perfect for this session. Little did I know that they had been together for 3 years and this would be their first photography session together. What an honor it was to capture these for them.

Vision: Playful Love

My vision for this session was to encourage an atmosphere filled with love and joy. I envisioned vibrant colors and playful vibes, and I’m thrilled to say that this session surpassed all expectations. It was a wonderful way to start out my fall season.

Upon Maddy and Mason’s arrival to the location, I simply encouraged them to embrace playfulness, maintain physical connection, and ignore the camera unless directed otherwise. Their energy was infectious, and together, we created unforgettable moments. Witnessing my vision come to life was truly exhilarating.

Trusting the Process

Each time inspiration has hit I start out unsure about if I can make it happen. Sometimes it is hard to trust the vision. It’s a journey that reaffirms my purpose every time. By remaining faithful to my vision and trusting in the process, I open myself to unexpected opportunities and fulfillment beyond imagination.

I learned years ago that when inspiration sparks I need to follow it. Even if it is scary and hard. Every time the sessions have been better than expected. I cannot wait for the next inspiration to come to life. Hint: it involves gymnasts and creative lighting. I am so excited and cannot wait!
