Happy Belated Anniversary to me!!

Ever have one of those weeks where you just know you’re going to forget something?? How about forgetting an important occasion? Like a birthday or anniversary!?  Well I never thought it would happen. Never thought that I would forget an important date in my life.  In fact I take pride in remembering all the special days in my life and always try to go out of my way to make it special.   Well that being said the day has come… It has come for me to forget a special day. Was it one for friends or a family member???   No!   It’s the anniversary of opening my business. Yep that’s right I have been so crazy busy between business and personal that I forgot my own anniversary.

October 2, 2013 my business turned 4 years old. Wow!!!  4!!  When I first started out my photography journey, I never thought in a million years I would be where I am today. As many of you know, I started out a premed major studying neuropsychology when my life took a huge turn. My oldest son was diagnosed with epilepsy and I knew being the mom that I am I would have to take a long look at my upcoming path.  So I took a break to reevaluate and took some photography classes during that time. Photography is something I’ve always loved from the time I was really little. I never took any classes since as a premed major you don’t put anything in your schedule except for the things that you need to graduate and move on to medical school. So my first semester of my break I took 10 photography classes.  My instructors told me I was crazy for taking so many at once. But it was something I always wanted to do and the classes fit within my schedule. I guess that’s the curse of being premed and always having to fit in as many classes as you possible between 9a and 5p. By the second day of the semester I knew photography is where I was supposed to be. I finished my photography degree in under two years. Which blew everyone away.  I lived in the darkroom.  Yes I started on film, and still love it today.  In fact I went kicking and screaming when it was time to go digital.

Once I graduated I started my business right away.  It was a slow start.  As are most businesses.  However just as I felt like I was digging in, we moved.  We moved to Southern California so I had to basically start my business again as if it was day one. Through struggles and hard times, pricing changes and clients, and high expectations of what I wanted out of my business, I’ve stood strong and always kept to my values. Today I have an amazing business with the most fabulous clients.  I get to be home for my kids and there for my husband. My business has giving me so much!!  More than I could have asked for up to this point.  Even though sometimes I’m crazy busy and don’t have a lot of time.  The amount of time I do have because of my business is so much more than what I would’ve had if I had continued my past path. It has been an amazing whirlwind adventure that has led me to where I am right now.

As of tomorrow my business takes on another adventure. Tomorrow I drop off my first abstract photography piece to be hung in a museum!!!  Every time I think about it I get tears of joy!  My piece will be there for almost 2 months.  (It blows my mind!!)  Not in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine having a piece in a museum. My heart is full of thanks for all support of family, friends, clients and colleagues… I’ve been completely blessed. So on this belated anniversary I just want to say thank you to everybody who’s been there with me from the start and all those newly in my life. Without your support I couldn’t have the courage to reach for my dreams.

Thank you!!  Thank you!!  Thank you!!

Here is to many more years of awesomeness to come!!!
