Happy World Photography Day!!
World Photography Day is a day for photographers of all types to celebrate photography. To celebrate how it began to where it is today. In 1839, Louis Daguerre invented the Daguerreotype. The Daguerreotype process involved exposing silver iodine vapor, exposing it to light, then exposing it to mercury fumes to the copper plate after the photograph was taken. It formed a latent image. Then you would bathe the plate in a salt bath which fixed the image to the plate. This process was innovative for the time. On August 19, 1839, the french government announced this invention. After the Daguerreotype, development continued to flourish. There was the Calotype, the 1st glass plate negative, albumen emulsion, collodion processing (collodion is still used when a neurology tech places an EEG on a patient), the development of dry gel on paper (film), color processing, and digital, to name a few. We have come a long way since the beginning. Many do not think twice about our technology today. Everyone has a camera these day, even if it is a cell phone camera. I bet Daguerre would have never thought photography would be where it is today. We have definitely come a long way from having to stand perfectly still for the long exposures the beginning cameras had to deal with.
So today I dusted off my Holga, found a roll of film in my photo fridge, and headed out to photograph. I even let my boys take a couple shots on the holga. 🙂 You might be thinking…”FILM???” Well yes it is that stuff us old folks used to use back in the day before digital. 🙂 Taking out a film camera was a great reminder of the format I learned on and how far photography has come in just the last 15-20 years. I LOVE black and white film photography!! It is crazy to think that if any of the advancements in photography had not worked out none of us would have known what a camera was, what it was like to capture a moment in time to treasure forever, or know what our ancestors looked like. Think about it for a second…how many times a day do you take a photo? Do you currently have a camera on you or within reach? The answers are probably many and yes. Can you imagine your life without a camera? I know I could not imagine it.
So let me know, what did you photograph today? Even if you did not know today was World Photography Day, I am sure you photographed something. 🙂 One of my captured moments of the day is below. I will post more once I develop my film images. Yes develop…with an enlarger and chemicals in the dark with a amber colored light. I can’t wait!!! I love working in a darkroom! 🙂 Oh by the way, if you are interested in a non-digital photo session, I would love to photograph you using film!! 🙂
Have a great night and a wonderful weekend.

After a day of running errands, chores, and capturing moments, this is what my 2 youngest give me when all I was trying to do is get a sweet photo of them snuggling. Very silly boys!
