Why Portraits Matter

September 18, 2025

Photography matters differently to everyone, whether it is to document your child’s growth, transitions, business, or just for fun. We all have different reasons why portraits matter to us.

Historically, photography has been in our lives since 1826. It has been used for record keeping, to document progress, art, as a scientific tool, photojournalism, fashion, personal expression, storytelling, and currently digital technology and social media. Over time, advancements such as color photography, instant film, and digital sensors have transformed both the accessibility and purpose of photography. Each era of photography reflects how technology and cultures were prioritized. Making it not only a form of art but also an essential record of human history. While photography has advanced through every era, its heart has always remained the same. To capture meaningful moments that allow us to relive, share, and pass down our stories for generations.

Portraits matter today

Today, thanks to smartphones, over 5.2 billion people have access to a camera. We capture everything. This raises the question: Why is it important to have professional portraits taken if you can just snap your own photo?

Well, snapping your own photo might be fine for everyday memories, but professional portraits help to tell a story and creates impact. A professional photographer knows how to use lighting, posing, and composition to create memorable portraits.

For families, a professional makes sure everyone looks their best, captures your family connection, personalities, and creates timeless photos you’ll cherish for years. We know how to redirect littles that are overstimulated by a new location and person. We know how to help you relax, laugh, and be you.

For brands, professional images elevate your business by showcasing your personality, professionalism, and your brand story in a way that phone snapshots simply can’t. We help you stand out and build trust with your audience. We help you build consistency within your business by being able to make your website, social, and marketing materials to be cohesive. Therefore, when someone is deciding on who to trust with their business, these qualities are what matter in their decision.

Investment in your Legacy with professional portraits

Professional portraits matter because they are not just images. They are investments that give you the chance to capture your legacy. They capture the love within your family or the confidence behind your brand in a way that a quick snapshot never could. So, if you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos or investing in brand images, let’s connect and make it happen.

In the comments, I would love to know why getting professional portraits matters to you. And if it doesn’t, I would love to know that too.
