If you live here in the desert you are pretty familiar with Hwy 74. If not, it is a very curvy road with nothing to see but rocks, boulders, and desert plants. Well I can’t tell you how many times I have traveled this road to meet with clients, to head to Temecula, or to go to San Diego. I have never thought much of the scenery. In fact, after living in Auburn, CA the scenery on 74 was not my favorite. Until one day I had to travel that strip between Palm Desert and Temecula (multiple times in one day) for my son’s soccer tournament. That is when inspiration hit.
I had this vision of a road trip photo session where I would stop as inspiration struck. Basically, I would give it to God and let him guide me. I envisioned photographing a girl in a flowing vibrant red dress amongst the rocks and bright blue desert sky, other flowing dresses in rugged locations, toe shoes, and an ocean sunset.
The Inspiration Prep
So, I began a secret Pinterest Board to fill with inspiration. Here is a small look at my board…
With this being my 1st inspiration (styled) session, I was extremely nervous but ready to take it on. I found the dresses, had one of my senior reps (and also my cousin) ready for the adventure, got a fabulous hair and make-up artist (Jen Martens), gassed up my car and headed out for what I was hoping would be an amazing adventure.
The Inspiration Adventure
Our 1st stop was just passed the Coachella Valley Vista Point on Hwy 74. I could not have asked for a more stunning sky. This spot was absolutely perfect for Jessica’s Audrey Hepburn inspired outfit.
Just up the road we found this next desert spot. Oh the texture! ..::swoon::..
After fun in the rocks we continued on our road trip in search of THE spot for the red dress. The red dress that took trusting the plan God had for my vision and one last look at Windsor in the mall to find. We did not have to travel far for inspiration to scream at me one again. It was breathtaking! <3 And I might have done a little dance on the side of the road. 😉
Ok I actually danced…kind of like a football player who just made a touchdown. LOL!! 🙂 The following image is that one that made me dance on the side of the highway because I was giddy over my vision being a reality!!! So cool!!!!!
Oh and can I just mention how stunning Jessica is and the hair/makeup that was done by the ever talented Jen of Jen Plus Color.
The Adventure Part 2
If these had been the only images I got that day, I would have been so very happy. Needless to say the rest of the day did not disappoint. The next stop was the Dripping Springs Campground off CA-79. A random spot we passed that begged for me to turn around. So, we made the u-turn and boy was I glad. I knew instantly I wanted the pink flowing dress and toe shoes.
Oh and letting down the gorgeous up-do done by Jen. Boy did Jen out do herself. Jessica’s hair came down beautifully. Oh and the light we had that day was astounding!!
Lastly, we were off to San Diego to hit the sunset at Ocean Beach in another beautiful dress from Windsor!
We wrapped up the day on the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego! I wanted busy streets, city lights, and the grace of a ballerina. Obviously, the Gaslamp was perfect, and when we were done our options for dinner were unlimited.
Jessica
A little note about Jessica: She is a high school senior at Palm Desert High School, class of 2014!! Wow!! 2014 where does time go?! It seems like yesterday that Jess was a little peanut impressing us with her “reading” of Hop on Pop. 🙂 I asked my Noni to give me a little blurb about Jessica and here is what she said: “Jessica is a sweet, loving, caring, and beautiful person. She loves dancing, keeping busy, and her family.” I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Jess! <3
Hair and Makeup
Obviously, I have to share a little about Jen as well! Jen is positively amazing!! Every time she is spot on. Hair is stunning and makeup is natural and bold, never caked on. Jen happens to do my hair as well, which I am so picky about. 🙂 Lastly, if you are even thinking about having a photo session, you need to have your hair and makeup done, by a professional! It makes a world of difference in photos, your confidence, and feel of the day. I send everyone to Jen. I am truly blessed to have found her. Thank you Jen for everything!! In fact, starting today hair and makeup comes with all my senior portrait sessions!! Yay!! 🙂
I am so blessed with this gift of capturing perfect moments for family, friends, and clients! God gave me my inspiration and the positively perfect adventure. I am beyond grateful for how everything turned out, and the adventurous nature of Jessica!! I hope you have enjoyed this post and images.
My inspiration truly became a REALITY!! ..::Love::..
