The Inland Empire Derby Divas (IEDD) are an all women flat track roller derby league. If you have never experienced roller derby before, you ought to. Roller derby is intense. It consists of a 60-minute bout broken up into 2 or 3 periods. In roller derby, there are lots of physical encounters while the jammer scores points for her team. A few weeks back my husband, Travis, and I went to our first roller derby bout. A high school friend of mine skates for IEDD as Ameri-Cannon. So we decided to go check it out. It was great! We had tons of fun and of course I brought my camera along. Their next bout is April 17th at 6:30 p.m. at Cal Skate in Grand Terrace, CA. We will definitely be there and this time we are bringing our older boys.

A month ago I had the great pleasure of photographing a fun, outgoing, handsome little guy. We had a amazing late morning walking around downtown Palm Springs. DJ was a blast to photograph. And SMART! There are too many 20 month olds you can tell to do something and they will actually do it. Which is why my toddler sessions usually consist of me just letting them be themselves. I follow them, focus fast, and capture beautifully natural shots. That morning we looked in windows, knocked on doors, played peek-a-boo, ran around, played with a car and a block, window shopped, and put a hot wheels cars on our heads. Sorry Jamie for showing DJ how to put toys on his head. We had a ton of fun and got some amazing photographs.

As I put the finishing touches on Jamie portraits of her little man, it brings a smile to my face just thinking about the day. Jamie, I am so excited for you to see the final products!

In attempts to refocus DJ, I was putting this car and a block on my head and balancing it while I photographed him.  So of course I had to capture one of this smart little one doing the same thing.  He had great control of the car on his head.  Sorry again Jamie!

I love how gently he was placing the car on the block. So patient for a toddler.
